CEO Returns to Work After Suffering Postpartum SCAD Heart Attack

Andrea Iglesias, 38, is a wife, mother and CEO of a not-for-profit public health organization in Miami, FL. On April 30, 2021, eight days after delivering her healthy baby boy, Andrea suffered a spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) heart attack. She was transported to Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami where physicians identified she was in cardiogenic shock. Interventional cardiologist Hector Crespo inserted Impella CP® with SmartAssist® to allow Andrea’s heart to rest before placing stents. Three days later, Andrea’s heart function improved and Impella® was weaned and removed. Andrea returned home to her family the next day.

Today, she has normal heart function with an ejection fraction of 60% and is working full-time while enjoying life with her family.
