Mother Recovers From Rare Cardiac Condition
Dawn Dipzinski, a 52-year-old mother of three from Ada, Michigan, had always been healthy and active. One day at work, she began to feel a crushing pain in her chest. Dawn went to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids and was taken into the cath lab, where physicians diagnosed her with a spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). SCAD is a rare condition that occurs when a tear forms in a blood vessel in the heart. This caused Dawn to go into cardiogenic shock, and doctors had to perform a double bypass surgery. Watch the video to learn how physicians at Spectrum Health used Impella® to support Dawn’s heart, allowing it to rest and recover.
